The 2019/20 season has been a memorable one for the Yellamen Vets. Embarking on a new adventure playing in the West London Veterans Football League Division 2. Playing home matches on the new 3G surface at the racecourse on a Friday evening, and away on Saturday afternoons.
Going on an unbeaten run in 2020 winning ever match, including reaching the semi final of the Berks & Bucks Veterans cup and climbing to second in the league.
Then came Covid – 19
The WLVFL management decided to give all clubs the chance to vote on how the season should be concluded. There was an overwhelming vote to decide league positions and promotion/relegation on a points per games played calculation (details in photo).
That resulted in the Yellamen gaining promotion to division 1 for season 2020/21, whenever that may begin.
Massive congratulations to all the squad, manager Dave Good, head coach Ken Wilson, president Doug Page, fixture secretary Steve Brine, treasurer Martin Kay and asst manager Matt Newell.
Unfortunately, the annual end of season tour, which this year would have seen a return to Spain, playing Valencia and Lavente vets has had to be shelved. It would have been a fitting finale to an excellent season despite coronavirus.
We will be celebrating promotion in the bar at the club as soon as that becomes possible.
