Morgan set for century as Ascot travel to leaders
Ascot United round off their pre-Christmas fixtures with a festive cracker at leaders Farnham Town on Saturday (3pm).
The Yellamen are on an unbeaten eight-game streak heading into what promises to be their biggest test of the campaign; the league’s in-form side now going head to head with a home team who are one place below them based on their last six league outings. And, with striker Taylor Morgan currently on 99 appearance for Ascot, the scene is set for a special script to be written!
Farnham boast a prolific record up top having scored 64 times in 20 games – defence will be key for Ascot on a day where they will need to be disciplined off the ball – and if they can keep it tight then they know they have goals in them especially after bagging three late strikes in last week’s glittering comeback against Guernsey and their stellar second half performance at Harrow before that.
This also promises to be the biggest attendance of the season with a potential four-figure gate, so let’s get over there and back the boys. Map is here, address is Mead La, Farnham GU9 7DY. Tickets are “selling fast” and can be purchased here.
This isn’t the only eye-catching fixture of the weekend programme as play-off prowling Hanworth Villa (6th) entertain Kingstonian (2nd), faltering Raynes Park Vale (9th) will be looking to get their hopes back on track against Hartley Wintney (3rd) and 5th-placed Uxbridge will need a good performance to take victory at Rayners Lane, who have only lost once at home even if their away form is poor.
As this is the final preview before Christmas, all that remains is to wish you all a happy holiday and thank you for your support in 2024. Whatever the outcome on Saturday if we stand back and look in we can all be proud of our teams’ gifts to us this campaign so far. Aside from JT’s troops sitting in the play-offs, David Burton’s youth team have acquitted themselves superbly with fielding a team of largely 15 and 16 year olds, whereas our Women’s first, reserve and JPL U18’s are top of their respective leagues heading into 2025.
And remember it starts again on Boxing Day at Badshot Lea before South Park are the visitors two days later on Saturday 28th December.
