Reigate trip looms for Yellamen
Ascot United open their Pitching-In Isthmian South Central Division programme with a trip to South Park (Reigate) on Saturday afternoon. The Yellamen opened their season with an FA Cup win over Milton United last weekend, setting up a clash with Virginia Water next weekend, whereas ‘The Sparks’ also won their FA Cup tie against league rivals Sutton Common Rovers (3-1).
Last season, South Park romped to a 4-1 win at home in early December in front of just 62 fans, the lowest crowd which Ascot played in front of during the campaign. However, goals from Harry Laflin and Ollie Harris secured an Ascot 2-0 win in the reverse fixture in March, although the Surrey outfit finished four places and sixteen points above Ascot in the final table.
Elsewhere on Saturday, fast-rising Farnham Town face a local derby at Badshot Lea, there’s a Middlesex derby between Harrow Borough and Ashford Town, whereas two promotion hopefuls go head-to-head when Southall entertain Leatherhead.
Looking ahead, the Yellamen are home on Tuesday (13th) evening when Kingstonian are the visitors to The Racecourse (7.45pm).
South Park’s Whitehall Lane stadium is here (King Georges Field, Whitehall Lane, Reigate, RH2 8LG) and your journey time could be anywhere between 50 minutes and 3 hours (Club Director Doug Page will be happy to talk to you about his prior experience!
Stay tuned for the match report Saturday evening.
Finally, many congratulations to first team manager Jamie Tompkins and his wife Emma on the birth of their baby boy earlier this week. With Ellis, Davies, Saunders and Richards’ offspring already running around the Racecourse Terraces (amongst others), the future pipeline of football talent for Ascot United is looking good!
