Bjorn’s boys beat Bracknell in Berks and Bucks Final

Ascot United U15’s edged out local rivals Bracknell Town to lift the Berks and Bucks County Cup at Slough Town’s Arbour Park on Sunday morning. In a close encounter, Harry Evans’s first half strike was enough for Bjorn Dunkley’s side to bring the silverware back to The Racecourse.

Bracknell started and finished the game well, but against an Ascot defence well-marshalled by captain and eventual man-of-the-match Thomas Ward, their chances were few and far between.

Early on, Robins’ defender Alex Winstone shot wide and later had another chance, but The Yellamen signalled their own intent midway through the half when Pranish Gurung drifted in from the right wing on a solo run that ended with a fine, curling shot destined for the bottom left hand corner until George Hatton clawed it away at full stretch.

And, three minutes later they found the net through Evans who ran onto Oliver Henry’s intelligent pass before blasting home from inside the area.

Bracknell captain Ethan Lobato missed two chances from distance in the space of two minutes just before the break, but Ascot deservedly led as the sides changed ends.

The second half was a scrappy affair of few chances; Ethan Oyedale firing over from distance on the hour mark for Ascot, but they saw an effort chalked off for offside with ten minutes to go when Louis Doogan’s brilliant flashing header from Isaac Leader’s equally fine left-wing cross was cruelly ruled out by the narrowest of margins.

Bracknell rarely threatened again in the face of a yellow-wall and comfortably managed the game; much to the delight of the travelling faithful.

Ascot United: Bassom, Jarvis, Seager, McHugh, Reed, Ward, Doogan, Afroog, Leader, Henry, Evans, McKenna, Oyedale, Kidd, Adebayo, Malhotra, Gurung
