Taylor hits two in 3-1 win over Binfield.
Taylor Morgan scored twice as Ascot United took the derby-day spoils at neighbours Binfield on Bank Holiday Monday. Morgan’s brace took his season’s tally to four from six outings, as his side made it a perfect holiday weekend after beating Ashford Town (Middx) two days earlier.
The Yellas started on the front foot with Sean McCormack looking dangerous down the right wing. George Lock took aim at the Binfield goal early doors but was denied by a phenomenal Kacper Orlowski save. Former mole Connor Holland then blazed over for Ascot from close range on the 16th minute mark.
Yellas’ debutant George Butler threatened down the left flank causing trouble in the box, but Binfield stood strong to keep their opponents at bay.
Morgan should have made it one-nil to Ascot in the 40th minute when he headed over from six yards out. However, McCormack broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time; springing onto the end of a Liam Tack through ball, before lofting the ball over the home ‘keeper and into the back of the net; a slender lead for the visitors at half-time.
The Moles started the second half well but didn’t massively trouble Mark Scott in the Ascot goal. At the other end, Anas Igozouln had a half chance to double the lead in the 57th minute, but his dragged effort went wide and this would keep Binfield in the game.
And, the hosts duly equalised in the 66th minute when ex-Yellaman Duarte Surpanu slotted home at the back post with a composed finish past a sprawling Scott.
But not to be undone, it only took The Yellamen four minutes before they regained the lead when Morgan leapt highest to nod home Butler throw in (pictured, shooting-stars.co.uk). And, Morgan put the game to bed in the 77th minute when he slotted past Orlowski at his near post to make it 3-1 and confirm a big three points, also underlining the big striker’s importance in front of goal.
