Ascot United Ladies put up a fight but were edged by high-flying Abingdon United Ladies in the League Cup Quarter Final on Sunday.
It was a tough ask for The Yellawomen against a side 2nd in their league, and it looked like it would be a landslide when Lauren May scored twice in the opening fifteen minutes to put The Northcourt side 2-0 up.
But Ascot – knowing that defeat would end their season after finishing their league campaign last weekend – clawed their way level before the half-hour mark thanks to Hayley Cruickshanks (17’), pictured earlier this season, and Izzy Woods (25’).
However, May wrapped up her hat-trick six minutes into the second half to take her own tally above a goal-a-game for Abingdon; 3-2 the final score.
Meanwhile, champions Ascot United Ladies Reserves won 8-2 at Slough Town Rebels to make it 17 wins from 17 heading into their final league match of the season at Woking Ladies Reserves next weekend. However, whilst their focus will be on finishing with a 100% record, they will also have half an eye on their league cup semi final at 1st Division Champions Badshot Lea two weeks later.
Finally, keep an eye out for Westfield’s result at Frimley Green in the Allied U18 Youth league on Monday. If Westfield fail to win, Ascot Allied U18s will be champions without needing to rely on their own match at Fleet Spurs a week later!
