Keeper Lucie White plays a cheeky blinder as Dazza’s team dazzle

Lucie White produced a goalkeeping masterclass on Sunday as Ascot United Women kept the destiny of the Southern Region Women’s football league title in their own hands. White made a strong of fine saves, including an injury time penalty, to protect Darrell Evans’ side’s 2-0 win at Abingdon Town.

In one of only two premier division matches to survive the weather, The Yellawomen took an eleventh minute lead when Hannah Bennett fired a free kick into the top left following a foul on captain Sarah Davern.

Chances were few and far between in the rest of the half before ten minutes of drama after the restart as the hosts hit a post before White produced a great save to keep them out, only for Dom Carrington to go up the other end and score number two after dancing through the defence and keeping her balance to slot home.

White made another sensational save just after the hour mark as Ascot held firm, before her 96th minute spot-kick save preserved the clean sheet.

Evans’s side have four league games remaining, with two of them against fellow title challengers Bournemouth Sports and Abingdon United, as they seek maiden step-five championship silverware.

Squad: White, Luckhurst-McCord, Connor, Bennett, Spark, Woods, Carrington, Todd, Brown, Kimble, Davern. Subs: Killick-Bird, Couzens, Skinner, Holden, Cruickshanks
