Yellamen look to take stride to play offs either side of Women’s final league game
There are three games in three days across the weekend as Ascot United Men and Women are in action. Printed programmes ‘lite’ will be available for free on the gate on Sunday and Monday.
The Yellamen are up first as they hit the road to Carshalton’s War Memorial Ground to face second-bottom Sutton Common Rovers. The hosts, eight points from safety, know they need to win their remaining three games and hope for an unlikely sequence of defeats for South Park or Met Police if they are to stay up.
And with six teams and six points between third and eighth vying for what looks like three remaining play-off positions – Uxbridge surely bagging one of the four already – Ascot will be looking for victory on Saturday, and then at home against relegated Badshot Lea on Monday – to avoid needing something from their final-day trip to Kingstonian.
They certainly managed to do that on Tuesday at high-flying Hanworth Villa on Tuesday, securing a vital point, with Steve Quelch and Alex Sykes (pictured, shooting-stars.co.uk) overseeing proceedings.
Looking at the form and who is playing who, Ascot’s run-in is arguably the best, although 6th-placed Hayes & Yeading have better form and will certainly be looking to win at least two – if not all three – of their own games. Moneyfields, 7th, are on a seemingly unstoppable march with six wins from six and although Kingstonian and 5th will look at Easter as a chance to pick up two wins, their form has gone out of the window.
Focus on your own games, as the saying goes!

On Sunday, Champions Ascot United Women entertain AFC Portchester in their final league game of the season. Portchy were impressive visitors when the two sides met in the league cup a few weeks back, and whilst The Yellawomen were runaway title winners in the end, they want to keep their standards high an maintain their long home unbeaten league run stretching back over three years.
After the game, there will be a celebration in the club, and it might just be a certain club legend Darrel Evans’s birthday…
Reports from all games will be here, with guest reporting likely to be in operation on Saturday.
