ASCOT OPEN LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WITH SOUTHALL TRIP

Ascot United’s Combined Counties League Premier North campaign gets underway on Saturday with a short trip to play Southall (map is via this link, Robert Parker Stadium, Short Ln, Stanwell TW19 7BH). Entrance ticket information is here

The Yellamen opened up with a dominant 3-0 FA Cup win over Holyport in front of 450 spectators last Friday and manager Jamie Tompkins was eager to get stuck into league action last Tuesday only for his side’s clash with Burnham to be postponed as The Bucks side were involved in an FA Cup replay.

Southall will, inevitably, provide a sterner test for The Yellamen. Well established at this level, ‘The All’ enjoyed 2 solid campaigns in 19/20 and 20/21 when they were fifth at the point both campaigns were ‘Covid curtailed’.  And, it may have gone unnoticed, but Southall have already played four matches this season. Sadly for them, their FA Cup journey ended at the first hurdle last weekend (Deal Town, 0-1) whereas their only league win came at Spelthorne Sports (2-0), sandwiched between defeats at Reading City (1-3), Deal Town and North Greenford (3-6).

The Yellamen were well backed on their first away day last season at Molesey and it would be great to see an even bigger travelling contingent this weekend, building on the superb opening-day attendance against Holyport. Also remember that there is an opportunity to travel on the forthcoming coaches to Risborough Rangers and Hengrove Athletic, as detailed here.

There is a full program of fixtures this weekend in the Premier Division North (which comprises 18 teams, compared with 20 teams in the Premier Division South).
