Ascot United’s Emirates FA Cup journey continues on Saturday with a visit to Virginia Water (Slough Town FC, Arbour Park, 3pm).
Ascot beat Milton United in the Extra Preliminary Round (1-0), whilst The Waters saw off Brimscombe & Thrupp (4-2). This Preliminary round tie – the 2nd of six qualifiers before the first round proper – pits The Yellamen against a side currently on fire in the Combined Counties League Division 1 (North). Virginia Water have won all three of their opening league fixtures and, together with the FA Cup win, have netted thirteen goals. Turnell Sinclair has bagged five of them, and this will be a tough test against a side who almost came away from The Racecourse with a pre-season win except for a late Ascot fightback in a 3-3 draw.
Waters also added the experienced Mark Bitmead during the summer and they currently sit 2nd in the table on goal difference.
If the game finishes level after 90 minutes there will be a replay next week, otherwise the next match for Ascot will be the first of their bank holiday weekend road trip when they travel to Ashford United in the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday 24th, before making the short trip down the B3034 to face Binfield on Monday 26th.
