Ascot Diamonds U14 go top of the Div 2 league

The local derby between Ascot Diamonds and Ascot Sapphires proved to be every bit as exciting as it promised.

Both teams played some excellent football in a game that could easily have gone to any of the two teams on display.

Ascot Diamonds just edged it in the end with a late goal from Amira “Haaland” Khan in a 3-2 thriller which could easily have had so many more goals but was kept in check largely down to some excellent work from both kepeers Hanna Richards in particular pulling off no fewer than three blinding saves when all seemed lost for the Diamonds. There was some great defensive work overall by both teams throughout the game with speacial mention to the tireless work of Emma Hughes the Diamonds midfielder leading the defence today

Some early fireworks from the Left wing dynamo Alexa Crittenden who scored a brace put the Diamonds 2 Nil up but Sapphires worked thier way back into the game with two well derseved strikes on the back of some good passages of play, before Amira “Haaland” found the winner her 11th goal in 12 games this season.

This was an important game for the Diamonds who now go to the top of Div 2 league on 30 points just one point ahead of Risborough Rangers on 29 points, who are sure to chase them every step of the way hoping for just one slip up.

Both Ascot teams were outstanding today and Ascot’s future is bright with these two teams carrying some very promising footballers.
