Ascot United return to league action on Saturday as they welcome Wembley for a Combined Counties Premier Division North fixture (3.00pm). The online programme is now here and included Simon and Jamie’s views, plus Dan’s quiz, my ramblings and a bunch of other stuff across 30 pages. Remember it is a cashless site at The Racecourse.
The visitors have played seven league games – winning four and losing three – but it is their superb recent form which makes them a tough prospect as they come into the game with five consecutive victories, scoring eighteen goals in the process.
Wembley have been at Step five since 2005-06 when they entered the Combined Counties League (although prior to that they were in the arguably-equivalent Isthmian League Division 2 before the pyramids were shaken up). After another reshuffle, they transferred to the Spartan South Midlands League in 2014-15 where they stayed until this season, when they rejoined the Combined Counties League.
And, few people will need reminding that just over a decade ago on 11th August 2011 the two sides met at The Racecourse in a Facebook-streamed FA Cup tie – attracting 1,149 spectators – which remains a club record.
Saturday’s league programme is below, with Virginia Water hosting Holyport on Friday and Abbey Rangers playing Marlow in the FA Cup on Saturday.
