LADIES RESSIES HIT TOP / LADIES BOW OUT / U18s SEEK REVENGE AS ASCOT HEAD TO CROYDON

There were mixed emotions for the Ladies’ Teams on Sunday afternoon although The Reserves (pictured) take centre stage here as they climbed to the top of Thames Valley League Division 3 (East) following a 2-0 home win over Abbey Rangers Reserves; Lou Pullen and Darcey Young on target. That win perfectly sets up next weekend’s clash of the big guns when manager John Swallow takes his side to 2nd placed Ruislip Rangers, who are also unbeaten this season. Ascot are now approaching a full year with a 100% record, having won all 21 games since a 3-1 defeat at Abbey Rangers Reserves on 13th December 2020, but they will need to be on form next weekend to protect that record.

Ascot United Ladies lost 8-1 at Chesham United in the County Cup Quarter Final with player-coach Alix Todd on target in the 37th minute as Sarah Davern was sent off for a poor challenge. Chesham play one level above The Yellawomen at Step 4, and the result underlines how good the performance against step-3 Chichester was one week earlier, ‘only’ losing 4-0 to National League opponents. Check out Lisa Phillips’ superb late diving save here.

Back to the Men’s section, and whilst the Ascot United Allied U18’s are in action at The Racecourse on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) looking to avenge defeat against Wokingham and Emmbrook in the reverse fixture, Ascot United are on the road at AFC Croydon Athletic in the league cup (also 7.45pm). The league cup ties poses an awkward midweek journey for Jamie Tompkins and his side who are looking to make it three wins on the trot against a side near the bottom of the Premier Division South. Athletic have won two of their last twelve matches in all competitions, including a 5-4 win on penalties at Wokingham and Emmbrook in the last round. Ascot received a bye and enter at this stage.

For those brave souls travelling on Tuesday, a map is here (Mayfield Stadium, Mayfield Rd, Thornton Heath CR7 6DN).
