Tough result today. The team played really well and didn’t deserve to lose. The score line does not reflect the game at all, which was also mentioned by the opposition manager.

We started the game strong and pinned the opposition back in their own half. Whenever they tried to break Vlad and his defensive line of Louis, Coxy and Kiyan were there to see out the danger. Our pressure paid off, with Tom playing the ball back to Ed from the edge of the box. Ed shot from 25 yards to beat the keeper.

As the half wore on, Ascot continued to dominate. Chances fell to Ethan, Tom, Jimi and Ed but all were unable to capitalize. Ethan especially was giving the Hawley defenders a torrid time.

The falcons had shown glimpses of danger in our half with one shot brilliantly saved by Raj but the chances for them were very few and far between. The half finished 1 – 0 to the Saints.

After halftime the saints were attacking uphill on a very tilted pitch. Ascot were in control of the first portion of the half, with Ethan getting through with his mazy runs to be 1 on 1 with a keeper at least another 4 times. He was unlucky not to have scored.

As the half drew on the saints started to look tired, as we only had 1 sub. Whereas the falcons were utilizing their 3 rolling sub’s very well. The falcons attacked down our left and squared to one of their players to tap in.

They then scored an absolute stunner from about 30 yards that hit the inside of the post and rattled into the net, giving the keeper no chance. As the saints looked very tired we pressed on to equalize, getting through a couple of times. Unfortunately we were hit on the break and they played through their striker to finish a 1 on 1.

The saints admirably pressed forward again, with Ethan, Ed, Tom and Matin all leading the charge. The falcons got a lucky break and took a speculative shot from 25 yards that flew into the back of the net, again leaving the keeper little chance to save.

The falcons obviously know their pitch very well and used the downward tilt to their advantage, something we have now learnt in case we play them again.

The Saints played valiantly, but in football the result does not always go the way it should. There will not be many games that end like this. All of the boys should hold their heads high and look forward to the next game.
