Report

A new benchmark

A tough evening but great to be back at the Racecourse playing competitive games. Ascot showed fantastic spirit and great stamina against a very strong Farnham side. The ball rotation and movement off the ball was relentless from Farnham for the whole 90 minutes and Ascot were doing well in the first quarter to maintain shape and ended up being the side to have two shots on target in this period. There was very little time on the ball and Ascot struggled to get out but were denying Farnham any decent opportunities.

That changed in the second quarter of the game. Ascot lost captain Matt Newall to an achilles injury which we hope is not as severe as first feared. This destabilised Ascot and Farnham took advantage with 6 goals in this quarter.

Ascot regrouped at half time and there were some fine individual performances from Rocket, Nige and Gleavey. The whole squad showed a great spirit. Farnham were a first class vets side with power and technique all over the pitch. Ascot had stamina and technique but it was the power that made the difference.

It will be great to invite Farnham back later in the season. Good players with a good attitude.

We all wish Matt the speediest of recoveries.
