Pre-season
Ascot United Vets 1st XI v Binfield Vets
A decent evening’s football in front of a large crowd who found the football a little more interesting than the 40th birthday party they were attending. Binfield were strong and young, dominating a lot of the possession and making Ascot work hard for the evening. When Ascot got the ball and played quickly then chances were created. Woody was giving these moves a really good platform, showing all the time and moving the ball efficiently around the midfield finding Phil and Mikey in good positions. The defence was getting a little stretched across the pitch as Binfield broke with width. Rocket was back for his first pre-season and coped well with the overload and Toby provided support in that area. Adam and Sam were carving out decent chances against two very good centre halves and Mikey’s runs were also causing a few problems.
Binfield created a number of chances and Nick Beard was having a very good game keeping them out. 2-0 to Binfield at half time.
A change of shape in the second half and Ascot started well and dominated possession in the first 15 minutes of the half. Binfield then took more control and the pace and quality of the strikers proved difficult to deal with. When Ascot kept the ball they created a number of chances with Phil just clipping one wide stealing in at the far post. Ferdi, Ryan and Neil had their work cut out against the young and quicky Binfield strikers but all worked hard. Binfield ran out 5-0 winners. Ascot should’ve had a couple of goals from very good chances but overall a good pre-season game against a very decent side.
Pre-season done and now for the first league game on Friday
