The game started off in very dull fashion with chances being a rarity writes deputy reporter William Powell. Joe Gater made an excellent headed block in the 21st minute to deny Chatham a certain opener. Shortly after, The Chats scored. Kareem Isiaka slotted into the roof of the net from close range after The Yellas sloppily gave the ball away in midfield. Ben Harris had a great chance to equalise in the 32nd minute but his header sailed over. Ascot were awarded a penalty 36 minutes into the tie but Aiden Payne-James’ weak penalty was easily saved by Joe Wright.
HT: Yellas 0-1 Chatham
Early on in the half, Aiden Payne-James created room for a shot but his powerful strike whistled wide of the top corner. Usman Lalustani hit a thunderous strike towards goal but Wright parried well onto the cross bar and over. The chances kept flowing for The Yellas; Joe Gater whipped in a great cross which Ben Harris somehow turned directly into the legs of the goalkeeper. 84 minutes in and Joe Gater had arguably the chance of the half. Gater found himself one on one with an open net and unbelievably headed straight into the post and the follow up effort dribbled wide. Chatham had a great chance to punish Ascot for their missed chances but the forward snatched at his shot which missed at the near post.
