Keaton August against North Greenford United in the Combined Counties Football League

Ascot United win 2-1 in the first home tie of the season with North Greenford United FC in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League.

The game began at pace with Ascot seeing much of the possession in the first ten minutes with Harry Grant delivering a pin point ball into the box but no one to connect with the inswinger.

North Greenford tested Jamie Ashdown soon after but he tipped it with ease over bar. No sooner had North Greenford’s attempt been created, Ascot were on the counter and forced a corner which was launched into the box by Sean McCormack. The ball pinballed with force around the defenders and was somehow kept out.

Joe Mill with North Greenford’s next chance of the game with a freekick but he blazed it far over the bar.

Brendan Matthew was set to put Ascot one nil up before the break but a scramble in the box and the linesman flag up meant it wasn’t to be. The pace of play meant North Greenford had their own chance as the Yella defense was caught out but the attempt rolled wide of the far post.

Mere moments in and Marcus Mealing caught the rebound with an outrageous bicycle kick attempt, but it was caught well by the keeper. Relentless in his attempts, he tested the keeper twice more.

Sixty minutes gone and North Greenford make the most of a defensive error and it’s crossed into the box and met by the head of Harry McCorkell to put the visitors one up. A last ditch block from the North Greenford defense meant Matthew’s one on one attempt was denied but Ascot weren’t ready to give up.

With twenty to go, the Yellas kicked on and the substitutions were there to make an impact. A cross from Keaton August on the left was met with the head of Harry Laflin and Ascot were back in it with the equaliser.

Just five to go and the Yellas dug in deeper and with three to go August found himself one on one with the keeper and slotted home to make it two.

A feisty tie saw North Greenford’s substitute given a straight red card for wiping out Josh Masters after the left back had cleared the ball and the side down to ten.
