It’s probably not worth writing much about, but Ascot United were beaten 5-2 at Hartley Wintney on Tuesday night on a bad night for both players and supporters.
With some stranded on the M3 after a serious car crash – club secretary Ricky Simons still parked up on the motorway even after full time – the seven-or-so away supporters watched their side go 3-0 down early in the second half before Sean McCormack gave them hope when converting Ben Harris’s fine cross.
But 1-3 became 1-4 soon afterwards, and although Liam Tack’s penalty brought it back to 2-4, striker Dede completed his hat-trick late-on to make it 2-5.
Harris (twice) and Anas Igozouln had both threatened early in the game as Ascot began brightly, but they eventually ran out of road – as did the travelling Yellas.
Onto the next one. Folkestone is ten times the distance. The Yellamen will also need to raise their game tenfold, but [spoiler alert] they can do it, and they know they can.
