Back to Saturday, and the match will come only eleven days after ‘Port belied their lowly league position in an energetic display at the Racecourse – narrowly losing 1-0 to Ascot – so will be out to repeat those performance levels once again.
Since then, Ascot have taken one point from two games as their quest for a play-off spot was damaged by Virginia Water and Abbey Rangers, whereas Holyport lost at basement-side CB Hounslow in a six pointer last weekend that saw them leapfrogged by their hosts and cutting them further adrift from safety. The Yellawomen have completed their league campaign and are waiting on results elsewhere to see if they will drop from 3rd to 4th, so Sunday’s game is an added incentive to extend their season. However, their hosts are in fine form – lying 2nd in the league and still in the hunt for the title – so it would take a ‘cupset’ for Darrel Evans’s side to progress.
Meanwhile, we’re sure the TVL3E champions Ascot United Ladies Reserves would like to run out at Arbour Park with a glass of bubbly in their hands on Sunday, but they will be looking to maintain their 100% record when they play the first of their final two league games at Slough Town. However, the date to diarize is Sunday 3rd April, as this is when they will travel to Division 1 Champions Badshot Lea in the Thames Valley League Cup semi final. Surely they can’t win that one too?!
And looking ahead, next Monday (14th) The Ascot United Allied U18s could be crowned league champions if nearest rivals Westfield fail to win at Frimley Green. Either way, Ascot will be champions if they win their subsequent game-in-hand at Fleet Spurs one week later. League table here.
