Ascot beaten at league leaders Moneyfields
Ascot United Women’s opening game of 2026 ended in defeat at league-leaders Moneyfields on Sunday.
The home side enjoyed most of the chances in the first half and were ahead as early as the sixth minute when Bekah Tonks sliced the ball home.
The hosts threatened twice again before Cherry Preisner made a good save to deny Shannon Albuery in the 20th minute.
But Albuery doubled the lead before half-time with her sixteenth goal of the season before home ‘keeper Mia King finally had something to do with a comfortable save eight minutes before the break.
After the break, Preisner made another good save to deny Ali Hall midway through the half and although Ascot finished with a flourish in forcing another save from King and hitting the woodwork, it was another defeat and failure to score in six of their last seven games.
With bottom-two Portishead and Worthing both losing, it is as-you-were at the bottom with the Yellawomen maintaining a two-point cushion to the dreaded drop zone.
Moneyfields extended their lead at the top to four points, but second-placed Swindon have three games in hand and have a 100% record in the league with ten wins from ten.
The Yellas are scheduled to make the long trip to Marine Academy Plymouth next Sunday…again…
