Yellamen at the double either side of Women’s rematch with Moneys
Ascot United are on the road at newly-promoted Fareham Town on Saturday before their bank holiday clash with Southall 48 hours later. And, in a football feast of a weekend, Ascot United Women entertain Moneyfields on Sunday – at Ashford Town Middx’s ground – having played them earlier this week in a league cup group stage tie.
Starting with Saturday, The Yellamen will head to Cams Alders Stadium, Palmerston Drive, Fareham, Hampshire, PO14 1BJ looking to make it three wins on the trot having beaten Binfield and Chislehurst Glebe. Fareham – also known as The Creeksiders – are back at Step 4 having come through the Wessex League Play-offs last season, where they attracted crowds of 698 and 1103 for their home semi final and final respectively. The last time they played at this level was in their final season in the Southern League in 1997-98, before spending almost three decades in the Wessex League.
This season, they have lost both of their opening two league games and attracted almost 900 for their local derby with AFC Portchester, but they secured a spot in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round after a 1-0 home win over Hartley Wintney; 187 in attendance for that game.
On Sunday, Ascot United Women entertain Moneyfields in the National League South West Division having played out an entertaining midweek 0-0 draw in the league cup group stage. Ashford Town (Middx) is the home venue given a charity match being played at The Racecourse.
And, on Monday, it’s all back to The Racecourse for the visit of Southall (3pm). Southall have only played one league game this season and lost, and they slipped up 4-1 at home against Erith Town during a midweek FA Cup replay. Southall’s line-up that evening included ex-Yellamen Harry Grant, Brendan Matthew and Nathan Jones – plus Hugo Sobte in goal.
