SCR LEAGUE CUP TIE: 10 REASONS TO ATTEND ON DAN’S 150TH

#WeAreAscot.

ASCOT United are in Velocity League Cup action on Tuesday evening as they welcome Sutton Common Rovers to the Racecourse for the second time in two-and-a-half weeks. The Yellamen beat Rovers 2-1 in August’s league match, and manager Jamie Tompkins is expected to use the tie to shuffle his pack with Dan Bailey poised to make his 150th appearance for the home side.

Early league cup ties aren’t always the biggest draw, but here are ten reasons why you should be at the game tonight:

  1. Real Madrid are going to win the Champions League anyway. It’s not really worth tuning into the box as Europe’s premier football competition gets underway seeing as The Galacticos have assembled an ominous-looking side to mount another assault on it.
  2. There’s a free printed programme for tonight’s game. Yes, you read it correct, a paper copy will be given to everyone passing through the turnstiles – we’ve printed 150 of a new ‘lite’ version – make sure you grab yours when you arrive!
  3. There’s only one DB! Well actually there are at least four if you consider Burton, Birchmore and Bucktrout, but this one won’t hunt your head, drink you under the table or reverse over your feet as the one and only Dan Bailey reaches his landmark appearance.
  4. JT’s mixing the decks. Manager Jamie Tompkins hinted at rotating his squad in the fans’ forum last weekend – here’s what he said.
  5. You get to spend a night with your mates. And a beer, and a burger. Get the hat-trick, here!
  6. The Yellas are going for super six! Yes, win tonight and the boys will make it a half-dozen wins on the spin, which would be their best sequence since promotion to step 4.
  7. It’s Tuesday under the lights! OK, so the current bulbs are getting a bit gloomy, but the new LED’s are on order and will soon be luxing-good!
  8. Tonight’s match report will be a bit shorter. So, if you really want to know what happens, you gotta be there.
  9. The weather is set fair. Temperatures at kick off are set to be around 17c and dry, so get yourself some summer air before the nights draw in!
  10. Chris Bailey is buying the beers. Even if reasons 1 to 9 don’t tickle your fancy, Bailey senior will be celebrating his son’s appearance by flashing the plastic at the Ascot Sports Bar. It’s single malt all round!
