Jamie Tompkins rakes time out to react after Yellas win three on the trot
JT, firstly many congratulations on behalf of the Yellafans after Saturday’s win over Hayes & Yeading United. How are you feeling after the win against a high-profile side in the top four?
I’m absolutely delighted. It was a massive challenge, and the players really stepped up. To come out on top against a team of that calibre shows the character and quality we have in this group. It’s a testament to the hard work everyone is putting in, both on and off the pitch.
We’ve been pretty comfortable at the back in the past three games. What do you think has been the difference?
I think it’s down to consistency and understanding. The back line has settled, and there’s great communication between them. The defensive unit as a whole, including the midfielders, has been disciplined and organised. Everyone’s putting in the effort to track back, win challenges, and cover for each other. That collective mentality is paying off.
Up top, Taylor was unavailable again, Ben put in a shift and got his goal, and Anas limped off. What’s the update on the injuries, and how important is Ben to the set-up?
Taylor’s still working through his recovery, and we’re being cautious with his return. Anas feeling the impact from the challenge, so we’ll assess him in the coming days, but it’s nothing serious. As for Ben, he’s crucial. His work rate, experience, hold-up play, and ability to find the back of the net are key to our system.
Harvey Harry came on today and did well. He’s a new name to most of the home faithful. What do you see in him to bring him here, and can we expect him to feature more?
Harvey’s a player we’ve had our eye on for a while. He’s got energy, technical ability, and a real hunger to prove himself. I thought he did well today, showing glimpses of what he can offer. He’s still needs settling in, but I definitely see him having a great impact in the future.
Sean got his goal today and his work rate is exceptional. He’s obviously about to relocate to the US and you’ve been planning for that. What will the impact be, and how do you envisage trying to fill that gap?
Sean’s been immense for us, both in terms of his qualities as a person and player. It will be sad on our part to see him go, but we’ve been preparing for it. We’ll need others to step up and take on that responsibility. It’s not easy to replace someone like Sean, but I’m confident we’ve got players in the squad who can rise to the occasion and make their mark.
