Ascot United welcome Hartley Wintney to The Racecourse on Tuesday evening (7.45pm). In lieu of a matchday programme, for which we apologise for absence, manager Jamie Tompkins has penned his thoughts.
“We come into this game on the back of some strong performances that have shown real promise and positivity. It’s clear that our playing style is evolving, and we’re playing more attractive, progressive football compared to last season.
Our group is embracing this direction, working hard every session and match day to improve and push forward. We’re well ahead of where we were last year, the stats back this up, and it’s rewarding to see that progress reflected on the pitch.
However, while we’re creating more chances than ever, we know that to reach our goals, we need to be more ruthless and clinical in front of goal. To consistently turn these positive performances into wins, we must sharpen up our finishing, and we’re working on that every week. There’s great belief in the squad that we can turn our hard work into even better results as the season goes on.
Congratulations to Josh Edwards on reaching his 50th appearance for the club. Josh has been a key player for us, and his impact since joining has been fantastic. He brings leadership, intelligence, power, skill, and a relentless work ethic that makes a real difference to the team.
I’d also like to highlight some of the talented young players who are emerging as the future of our club: Anas Igozouln, Nathan Jones, Connor Holland, Aiden Payne-James, Ollie Mason, Ollie Kalsi, and George Butler. These players represent a bright future, and they’re being pushed on by our more experienced lads who provide the guidance and support we need as a team. Together, this mix of youth and experience is building a foundation that we’re all excited about.
Tuesday, we face a strong Hartley Wintney side who have started the season well. After last month’s defeat to them, we’re determined to turn things around and give them a tougher challenge today.
Finally, I want to express my appreciation for our supporters and sponsors. Your backing this season has been superb, and it’s made a noticeable difference. The positive energy you bring creates a brilliant atmosphere around the club, and we all feel it. Let’s keep that going, get behind the lads and keep the negativity at bay.
Up the Yellas! ~JT”
