Players and staff unite for medical emergency in crowd
Ascot United’s league game at Hanworth Villa was abandoned midway through the first half following a serious medical issue suffered by one of the spectators.
With the game goal-less around the 25-minute mark, the referee and players’ attentions were drawn to the incident on the far right hand side of the ground, and play was halted.
It is not appropriate to share further details or speculate at this time, but two ambulances were quickly on the scene and fans on the far side of the ground made their way to the near side, where the referee quickly called a halt to proceedings – absolutely the correct decision – as staff and players from both sides were also involved in providing ongoing assistance.
For what it is worth, the game was an even affair on a dusty pitch where the ball seemed to spend most of its time in the air, with the only real chance falling to Ascot’s Anas Igozouln, who glanced George Lock’s inviting cross wide of the left-hand post.
