Ascot United and Hanworth Villa played out a goalless draw on Tuesday evening, a game which saw The Yellamen take a good point on their quest for a play-off spot.
On a night of emotion in the wake of fan Paul Sarin’s passing in the originally abandoned game, it was perhaps befitting that the rematch’s result epitomised the equality in scoreline and sentiment.
Hanworth Villa donated all of the profit from a crowd of 306 to Paul’s family; a gesture our club – and his family – are truly grateful for.
On the pitch, Will Powell our guest reporter writes the following report:
The first half was a game of head tennis and long balls with Hanworth captain George Wells winning a large majority of those. Ben Mulley had two half chance headers which Mark Scott comfortably caught between the Ascot sticks. The second half was extremely reminiscent of the first half, however with more headers and long balls.
Mark Scott was forced into making a good save late on in injury time to deny Louis Collins, but that was the only real chance in an extremely even game of football with both teams seeming content with a point.
The Villains remain in third, with Ascot moving up one place to fourth, two points below their gracious hosts. Hanworth Villa; we thank you once again. We now all move on together as always, as one.
