Report

The boys took the field this morning for their first game in nearly four months to play Whitegrove & Warfield. Conditions were cold and blustery and the match played on a hard bobbly pitch.

The first 20 minutes were largely even with both sides unable to create any clear cut chances but W&W looked the more dangerous. This all changed on 28 minutes when a long ball from left to right found the W&W winger in acres of space and he was able to bear down on goal and cross the ball to the far post where the W&W player slid in unopposed to poke the ball home. Two minutes later they added another, the ball was only half cleared to 20 yards from goal where it was slammed back into our 6 yard area where the striker turned and passed the ball into our goal. Raiders tried to respond but W&W kept the boys at arms length although we managed to hit the bar twice with speculative shots from James Barclay and Pablo.

After strong words at half time Raiders started the half on the front foot and after 7 mins reduced the deficit with a long range goal from Pablo. The W&W keeper was injured in the process of trying to save the shot and had to be replaced. The boys kept trying and had a goal ruled out for offside and Rufus had a good shot saved but W&W looked dangerous on the break and a rasping shot beat Musty but rebounded back off the post. Despite lots of effort allied to some good defending by W&W, it was increasingly looking likely that the boys were going home empty handed, but just before the final whistle they thought they had equalised, but it was again ruled out for offside.
