Matchday Three of the 2025-26 WLVFL saw a patched upAscot United V2s come out second best in a bitty encounter against West Kensington Kings. Alex Markarian notched the visitors’ only goal, but by the time he neatly fired home the deed was long since done.

Storm Amy has been merrily ransacking the country over the last couple of days. Whilst the rain that Amy tipped all over the Supervets on Friday night had moved on, the wind was still strong and indeed made playing football a challenging undertaking. Such was the task that WKK and Ascot United IIs had to master.

To be fair to the hosts, they ultimately dealt with the conditions better. In the second half in particular Ascot had plenty of the ball, but WKK looked dangerous on the break and more likely to score. That they did, twice in the first half and twice more in the second, as Ascot pushed ever further forward to try and save the game.

On the plus side, debutant Lawrence Stephenson had a strong game at full back whilst skipper Steve Dando offered fortitudeaplenty. Adam Abusweder kept tackling and tackling, Islam Hussein led the line as best he could and Chris Watney was a constant danger on the flanks.

Given that the Yellas had two debutants, plus another who was making only his second appearance they were inevitably a bit disjointed. But, Jon Keough did well to battle through his first 45 minutes of football since June, and Dan Wing kept plugging away despite his hammy telling him not to. Respect due.

Ultimately WKK were nonetheless just a bit fitter, a bit more fluid in their play and a bit sharper in front of goal. The V2s don’t, however, have long to lick their wounds. They are back in the saddle on Friday when Bank of England visit the Racecourse.
