Match report from yesterday’s game.

The journey in front of us all on Saturday was a trip to the distant charms of Harrow, a good hour away from Ascot plus a bit more. However, after a reminder text to the group for balls and kit one of the group,called Chris Purdue, realised that we weren’t at the same place as he was. Cheam. Cue slight panic. Luckily the oppo leant is their spare kit but it was almost the same colour so we used it inside out which was a novelty look for the SVs. With the kit and Chris way way down the M25 in Surrey and Matt Penalty Taker Newall late from his kids game, we started with 11, but had a good 11. Early exchanges were competitive with the pitch a bumpy muddy grass slope and a good walk from the clubhouse. Old Lyonians took the lead when a cross was volleyed home from close range. Ascot didn’t panic and with the midfield Twins of Mickey and Hambo getting busy and the front two of Ferds and DT being robustly challenged as the ball was played in to them, the game was turning for Ascot and the equaliser came when a Hambo shot was deflected by DT past the keeper. Matt arrived mid way through the half and the kit at 10-3. Hambo got a whack and fell and bumped his head with concern from the oppo saying “hes not sure where he is” which wasn’t news to the Ascot team , however after a few minutes he got back to his feet a bit groggy and unstable but was fine. So all square at half time. Changes made were mainly a yellow kit, with Matt coming on and a swap around in defense still kept Freer and Ed on the middle and Jad and John at full backs. Kay and Newall wide. Chances came for both sides with the bar being struck but alas no winner. The referee let most things go but did pick up on foul throws of which there were many apparently , he was also very happy and kept his steps to a minimum. It ended 1-1 and with a beer and a pasta and chicken drumstick combo on offer we ate and had a beer. To conclude a day of fun we left half the kit there which one
the opposition players is dropping off to Dans house. Who said SV football can’t be fun 🤔
