V Wargrave Girls
A bright and sunny day if a bit chilly (yes you heard that right no rain in sight). Of course, it wouldn’t have mattered too much as Ascot were facing a team that had scored 26 goals in the their last six games and were only 3 points behind Ascot in 3rd spot.
Half time with the game still on a knife edge NIL NIL
In the 41st minute the Chess grandmaster Emily again reading the expected attempt to play a long ball perfectly decided to step in and ask for tickets to get through from the Wargrave and whilst the shout of “tickets please” was ringing in the Wargrave attackers ears Emily calmly sent a Coaches manual perfectly weighted delivery of a pass forward to who else the electric dynamo Phoebe who with a napkin around her neck and knife and fork in hand stormed past the bemused Wargrave defence to burst into the box before calmly slamming the ball wide of the advancing keeper into the far post, a stunning goal to break the deadlock
This was Phoebe’s 3rd goal for the season and Emily 1st assist. How important a strike was that to unpick a very stubborn Wargrave defence.
Ascot 1 Wargrave NIL
In the 55th minute Phoebe now a major headache for Wargrave again drifted down the wing and laced a ball into the box where the tenacious Erling “Amira” Haaland, bundled into the box before starting a slow motion fall to the ground but not before getting enough of the front portion of the boot on to the ball to bury it past the flailing Wargrave keeper.
Another fine strike as Amira scored whilst still falling over. Remarkable but make no mistake this was Amira “Haaland’s” 10th goal of the season in an impressive debut season and Phoebe impossible to keep out of the action collecting her 1st assist.
2 NIL to the Diamonds. Echoes of “come on you yellas” now building across the ground as Diamonds had now seized full control of this match.
In the 65th minute, in what was pure football poetry, Aariyah delivered a perfectly weighted pass with the precision of a heart surgeon as it threaded its way through two Wargrave defenders to land at the dancing boots of Alexa who again went down the left wing with alarming pace so late in the fray and with tiring Wargrave chasers in pursuit, Alexa put a ball into box which landed inches from the keeper but most importantly inches from Gabby who decided to also join the party and finished the move by putting the ball past the keeper just to the right.
3 NIL to the Diamonds and Gabby had collected her 7th goal of the season and Alexa her 5th assist an impressive testament to the work she has done for the junior yellas all season long.
Opposition player of the match was Alexa her 6th award for the season (yes you heard that right) and Coaches player of the match was Phoebe for not only getting the Diamonds going by unpicking the Wargrave defence but a tireless performance disturbing the plans of Wargrave.
