V Goring Robins
Ascot Diamonds arrived to a soft Goaters Road pitch to face a Goring Robins side that has gone through a rebirth starting the year with a 4 nil thumping of Wargrave last week.
In the 15th minute Kyla again drove down the line compliments of a great pass from Tabitha and showed good strength to hold off the challenge and slide the ball just a few feet from the box where Macy alert picked the ball up turned the defender and made no mistake in slotting the ball past the Goring keeper
1 NIL to Ascot thanks to a great assist from Kyla and an excellent finish from Macy. It was Kyla’s 3rd assist of the season and Macy’s 4th goal.
Half time and 1 nil to Ascot but far from comfortable as it was clear this game was still very much on a knife edge.
In the 48th minute, Goring off the back of another long ball saw Emily having an excellent match as skipper cleared a ball from deep in the Ascot half forward and Gabby drifting wide to the right wing keep battling with the Goring defender to win the corner.
Hollie delivered a perfect corner which landed just inside the box for the unmarked Eva on the edge of the box to calmly place the ball past the outstretched gloves of the Goring keeper to make it 2 Nil
It was the boost that Ascot needed in what was a tough game all round so far. Hollie with the assist her 2nd of the season and Eva with the goal her 2nd of the season
In the 51st minute Aariyah delivered the corner again with precision right into the box and a sea of scrambled feet some red some yellow desperately tried to clear the ball, before it landed on a platter for Macy who picked the far corner to dispatch the ball for Ascot’s 3rd goal.
3 Nil for a goal by Macy which was her 2nd of the match and her 5th of the season, but make no mistake created by Gabby winning the corner, delivery by Aariyah and lots of confusion in the box created by Ascot’s attackers.
In the 54th minute Goring now looking to salvage something from the game put a long ball out wide followed by a quick pass into the box and the alert Goring striker wrapped her foot around the ball to bury it in the back of the net. Goal for Goring 3-1.
In the 65th minute Goring again slipped a perfect pass into the heart of Ascot’s defence and the Goring striker hungrily drove into the box and held off two strong challenges to find themselves one on one with Hanna before placing the ball in the far corner to make it 3-2
Opposition POTM was Alexa and Coaches POTM was Emily
It was not one of Ascot’s finest games and it was tough from the first whistle, however the best teams know when they have to win ugly and today Ascot did just that.
Congrats to Macy for a brace and Eva for her fine goal to keep Ascot in the hunt for the Division 2 league title in what is increasingly looking like a two horse race with Risborough Rangers
