v Gerrards Cross
It was game that the Diamonds knew they had to win, in fact they need to keep winning to keep Risborough Rangers at bay for the rest of the season, but with the squad down to just 12 players it was never going to be walk in the park against a well organized Gerrards Cross team.
In the 3rd minute Tabitha Martin looking more Martin Odegaard than ever timed a ball which was kicked out by the GC keeper to perfection on the half volley sending the ball back where it came from for Aariyah Sharma like a live wire to collect, gracefully glide past the defender and smash the ball past the keeper for a brilliant opening goal.
I Nil to Ascot and what a brilliant piece of football for Aariyah’s 1st goal of the season and Tabitha’s 3rd assist.
The game continued to play a frenetic pace albeit with some frequent turnovers by both sides before Ascot now really forcing GC to work hard won a corner in the 9th minute.
Aariyah surgeon like with her precision delivered a wonderful ball into the box which was tapped away by the GC keeper into the path of a sea of yellow and blue socks all frantically trying to keep hold of the hot potato of a ball before the ball landed in front of Macy Sealy, and on her 13th birthday calmly placed the ball low and precise past the flailing gloves of the GC keeper to make it 2 NIL
It was Macy’s 6th goal of the season and delivered with same calm as her penalty kick last weekend against the Wolves.
The second half started at 10.23 am and GC clearly buoyed by their half time talk came out firing winning the early exchanges before in the 38th minute the GC striker again drove into the Ascot area and as the Ascot defence took a hesitant step back the striker needed no further invitations to belt the ball into the far corner and beyond sprawling grasp of Hanna Richards to make it 2-2.
It was perhaps just reward for GC but on reflection a bit too easy for them with that opportunity.
In the 66th minute GC again slipped a tiring Ascot defence and with what surely looked like a winner that super human Diamonds keeper Hanna Richards again did the impossible pulling off a point blank save for a shot that laced with venom. Another big big save, but then again Hanna has made so many of them this year that we cannot take her work for granted in these moments which may make all the difference in the Diamonds 2026 season
The game finally concluded a few minutes later 2 goals apiece and on reflection perhaps a fair result
The opposition voted Aariyah Sharma player of the match for her tireless work and silky skills with the team also sending a special mention to the outstanding work by Hanna Richards who pulled off a number of spectacular saves.
The girls all put in the yards today, but not only did the birthday girl score a very important goal for the Diamonds but she was almost flawless playing in three different positions over the course of the match. Coaches player of the match was Macy Sealy
This was the 11th unbeaten game for the Diamonds and how important today’s result would be, makes for an interesting and exciting run in for the rest of the season.
