V Chelsea Development Side (7-a side baller league rules)
Waingels College Wokingham
A bright and pleasant evening greeted Ascot’s Diamonds as they arrived at Waingels College to play a 7 a side baller rules football friendly against a decent Chelsea team. This would be a game of four 15-minute quarters.
The game kicked off at 19:59 with a starting seven of Hanna Richards in goal, Emma Hughes and Mia Gill in defence, Holly McFarlane in midfield, Alexa Crittenden on the left and Macy Sealy on the right with debutant Gracie Cox up top.
In the 3rd minute of play Macy Sealy brought a high ball to rest at her feet, and picked a perfect pass through to Gracie Cox who instantly was challenged by the Chelsea defender, but Gracie still kept control and laid the ball off for the battling Holly McFarlane who had already covered about 20 miles in 3 minutes from post to post, before through sheer determination battled past the immediate challenge to place the ball in the back of the net.
1 NIL to Ascot with that determined strike from Holly and a sensational debut assist from Gracie
In the 7th minute, Chelsea, on the back of the second daring attempt to get back on level terms, won a corner as Mia was in no mood to let anyone dance past her in defence. The corner was a good one curling into the box and unfortunately hit Alexa on the back post and bounced past Hanna into the back of net.
1-1 as Chelsea luckily welcomed that stroke of luck.
In the 36th minute, with the game now being played at high tempo, Emma Hughes working so hard for the entire game charged down a Chelsea midfield player who lost the ball due to Emma’s direct challenge, and as the ball bounced away Holly McFarlane electric, made sure she won the fifty-fifty challenge just, and did enough on the follow through to send the ball wide to Alexa Crittenden, who dribbled past her challenge comfortably and crossed the ball into the box for Holly still running after winning the earlier tackle to reach the ball first, turn on the silky touch with a push past the defender before slamming the ball in the net past the bemused keeper.
What a goal as Alexa provided the assist and Holly nailed her second goal of the match.
2-2 and game on.
In the 40th minute, Chelsea robbed of the ball again by Emma Hughes in the middle of the pitch, saw Emma hit the ball from inside Ascot half towards the goal and the keeper just parried the audacious strike from the goal but only as far as the advancing who else but Holly McFarlane who struck the ball sweetly but into the legs of a Chelsea defender, before Gracie Cox on the rebound also struck a shot that was blocked by the defender and as the ball bounced as far as the edge of the area, Pippa Langley also struck the ball low and hard into the net to end the charmed life Chelsea were living with a wonderful finish.
3-2 to Ascot who had for the first time in the match taken the lead.
In the 46th minute, Alexa Crittenden weaved past a strong challenge, and placed a wonderful pass into Gracie Cox who drifted to the right and finished the move with some style to make it 4-2 to Ascot
It was the second amazing assist from Alexa and what a debut goal for Gracie. Off the mark in fine style.
Two minutes later in the 48th, Ascot now turning on the style saw Macy Sealy calmly control the ball and slot a pinpoint pass through for Gracie Cox yet again to skip past the initial challenge and bury the ball in the nets.
5-2 for Ascot. An excellent assist from Macy and another wonderful finish from the debutant Gracie.
In the 52nd minute Alexa Crittenden, once more menacing on the wing, laced another outstanding cross into the box where sailing through the sea of black Chelsea shirts was super Pips (Pippa Langley) to guide the ball past the flailing keeper.
6-2 to Ascot and what a finish by Pippa as well as Alexa’s 3rd amazing assist in the match.
Junior yellas were in town and living large.
Ascot represented themselves very well against Chelsea and an excellent debut by Gracie.
Three braces by Holly, Pippa and Gracie as well as three assists by Alexa, and one by Macy and one by Gracie.
All eight players last night could easily have been players of the match, and it was not an easy decision, but Coaches’ player of the match for an electric performance from start to finish was Holly
