v AFC Reading (league) (13Th Sept 2025 – The Marist School)
A week of heavy showers supplemented by even more overnight rain meant the new season was greeted with a damp pitch at the Marist School, although this didn’t dampen the spirits of 16 diamonds all with sparkling hopes of putting the hard yards of practice into action for the new season.
With the pressure mounting and rapid ball movement a clever ball from Aariyah through the middle, found Gabby who clattered the top post with warning, leading to a hastily scrambled kick out for Ascot’s second corner with 11 minutes on the clock.
The corner again placed into the box by Aariyah with precision bobbled around twice before Eva floated in to score the Ascot opening goal 1-nil in the 12th minute. Eva back in business
In the 34th minute Tabitha pushed a ball wide to Aariyah which was blocked and Macy picked up a loose ball just a few yards from the halfway line and tussled with two defenders to get off a shot on target which was met by the flying Gabs to shepherd it over the line…………Two NIL and a great team goal
The press was now in full effect as Holly dancing down the line cut in and back out before unless a thunderous cross from outside the left of the box to beat the keeper at full stretch into the far corner of the goal……..3 Nil on the 54th minute………Goal of the Season so far
By now Ascot could be forgiven for slightly relaxing as Reading desperately lashed a ball from mid way between the box and half way line which beat everyone, and poor Hanna completely blinded until the last second when it appeared never had any time to react. It was the consolation goal reading were after scored on the 65th minute 3-1.
Was this going to be a comeback…..not really as Ascot put on the after burners and again started to attack Reading like it was the 5th minute of the game and in the 69th minute, Alexa was taken to ground inside the box……..PENALTY
Tabitha of course stepped up very calmed had one look at the goal and laced the ball in the far corner of the net 4-1 GAME SET MATCH
A fine start to the season by all 16 Diamonds and Skipper Hanna was voted player of the match by the opposition and the Coaches Player of the Match was Towani who had an outstanding game at right back
