The second most memorable game in 2s history ? For me yes mused gaffer for the day Leon. Not since a battling 2 1 win away to Jamrock in the 2023-2024 promotion season have I seen commitment and togetherness like we displayed today.
The army were decent and moved through the first two thirds with control but had very little threat in the final third. Their three goals came from a sliced clearance from the otherwise faultless JK, a top corner humdinger of an own goal from Daz, who also had an excellent game, and a hotly debated penalty.
Ascot were 3-1 down, the one Ascot goal having been scored by the effervescent Purdie early on in the game, with 20 mins to go still believing they would win, and they were not wrong. James scored his first Ascot goal in just his 2nd game then Purdue scored his second of the match to equalise after once again winning the first header from a corner. So… we were 3-3 with 5 to go and on the front foot.
Step up Glen, a big character scoring a big goal from a “big” distance, the keeper tried to dribble out, the forward players harrased him, he scuffed the ball to Glen in CM who took a touch and fired the ball 40 yards into an unguarded net.
4-3, a famous win for Ascot 2s against a high quality and thoroughly decent army team. We are top of the league !!!
