YELLAWOMEN WIN AGAIN

Four is the magic number as Ascot win 5-1 at Portchester

Ascot United Women overcame dogged AFC Portchester on the road to make it two wins out of two in their Southern Region Women’s Football League campaign. Just as they had done a week earlier, Nath Baker’s troops scored four minutes into each half, in and around the hosts’ equaliser that had seen the sides go in level at the break

Littlechild makes big impression

Leah Littlechild got the visitors off the mark early-on with a curling effort into the net, beating home ‘keeper Roxy Roberts.

But newly promoted Porchy were on terms when they levelled direct from a free kick just seven minutes later.

But there is something about the fourth minute as, once again, they scored early in the second half and it was Littlechild whose looping header from Maddie Robertson’s free kick made it 2-1; 49 minutes played.

There’s a rat in me pitches, what am I gonna do?

A fine individual goal from Liv Glover just after the hour mark gave Ascot some breathing space at 3-1, before Leah Robertson made it 4-1 just moments after coming off the bench.

Play was then unusually held up as a dead rat was cleared from the pitch – a Fox might have been to blame – but either way one of the ‘Kate’ variety popped up with number five in added time to make it a successful trip to the Onsite Group Stadium.

Eyes elsewhere include Reading’s step 5 slip-up

Elsewhere, Reading FC’s debut at step 5 ended in a 3-0 defeat at Sholing, Oxford City edged out Winchester 2-1, Wycombe won 3-1 at Selsey and Woodley bounced back from their rout by Ascot last week to beat Badshot Lea 4-2. The results mean no other team in the league has a 100% record.

What’s next for Ascot?

A slightly nearer roadtrip looms next weekend with the visit to Burnham FC’s stadium and a league encounter with Wycombe Wanderers (2pm).

Ascot United: Gray-Piazza, Todd, Huntley, Drage, Luckhurst-McCord, Maddie Robertson, Holden, Littlechild, Lloyd, Leah Robertson, Glover. Subs (rolling): Rowntree, Fox, Ball, Knight, Torry.
