ASCOT FALL TO HEAVY ABBEY DEFEAT

Yellamen beaten 4-0 by impressive Rangers

Abbey Rangers scored twice in each half to inflict a heavy home defeat on Ascot United on Tuesday evening. The visitors were simply too good for the Yellamen, as Jamie Tompkins’ side slipped to their first home defeat of the season.

In a frantic opening, Rangers probed in and around Ascot’s penalty area, but it was the hosts who threatened first when James Richardson stuck the left-hand post after Taylor Morgan and Aiden Higgs had squirmed the ball across to him on the edge of the area.

Rowley would slice Morgan’s cross past his own ‘keeper only for effort to be chalked off as the ball was deemed out of play moments earlier, but that was as good as it got for Ascot as the visitors took control.

Daryl Cooper-Smith stopped to head home from one of the increasing number of visitors’ corners just after the half-hour mark before Luke Robertson drilled low past Sam Gray to give his side a quick-fire second.

Louis Bouwers had two decent chances to cut the deficit before the break although his header, and then his side-foot volley, were off-target.

Tompkins rang the changes as the hour mark approached but it took a fine save from Gray to deny Kedze as Rangers cranked up the pressure.

And, just after Robertson had lobbed onto the roof of the net, he was well-placed to convert Kedze’s cut-back in the 67th minute before ruthlessly completing his hat-trick in the 78th minute.

Home substitute Ian Davies had earlier glanced his header over and both he, George Lock and Elliot Carey had even later chances to grab a consolation, but it was a bad day at the office as Ascot drew blank for the second game in a row.

Ascot United: Gray, Lock, Haworth (Laflin 60’), Carey, Bouwers, Bailey, Evans, Denton, Morgan, Richardson (Berry 80’), Higgs (Davies 60’). Subs unused: Hodges, Andrady
