Report

It’s fair to say neither team had made a great start to the season with both suffering some heavy defeats along the way.

From the kick off, Barton took the home advantage and for the first 10 minutes were clearly on top winning first and second balls as well as creating chances.

Ascot weathered the storm and began to settle into the game with much more confidence.  This could be seen in some good passages of play and increased opportunities in front of goal.

On 28 minutes Ascot scored which gave them a huge boost going into Half Time.

The team talk from Manager Graham Jones and Coach Matt Scrace was a simple one.  Keep doing what you’ve been doing for the past 20 mins and stay focused until the final whistle.

5 minutes into the second half and from a goal kick the Midfielders put together a great combination play and sent our Striker in on goal to make it 2-0 so looks like the team talk worked.

Ascot kept the pressure on Barton Rovers and were rewarded with a third on 50 mins and fourth on 60 minutes.

Barton didn’t give up the chase and were unfortunate not to score from a great strike that hit the crossbar.  This was a sign that they wanted goals and they were rewarded on 65 minutes when the Ascot defence switched off briefly for Barton to pull one back and make it 4-1 going into the last 5 minutes.

On 70 minutes after having several good opportunities saved by the Barton keeper earlier in the match, our ‘number 10’ for the day slotted home to make it 5-1 and cement the Manager/Coaches decision to award him Man of the Match for working hard and carrying out coaches instructions when he came on as sub.

Great effort by the boys and a well deserved win to build on going forward.

Thanks for Sean and Barton Rovers players, parents and staff for the warm welcome and a sporting match.  Also thanks to Gary the ref for an excellent job.
