Anaisa Harney starred as Ascot United Women gave their National League (South West) survival hopes a massive boost with a 4-1 win over 2nd-bottom side Portishead Town on Sunday.
Harney scored one and provided an assist for Andy Cox’s side, who moved five points clear of the bottom two with a game in hand.
Hattie Kettle got the visitors off the mark in the 38th minute when she headed home Mia Delaney’s free-kick; a lead they took into the break.
Harney then doubled the lead soon after the restart, and although Portishead made things interesting with a goal back in the 78th minute, Harney teed up substitute Dani Dias to head home in the 85th minute before Bella Cox’s corner three minutes later made it 4-1.
The result was a massive boost to Ascot given they had scored in only one of their previous seven matches, and with 2nd-bottom Worthing suffering a 10-0 mauling at Swindon Town, there is daylight between Ascot and the trapdoor.
Ascot have the opportunity to create more daylight when basement side Worthing visit The Raacecourse on Tuesday evening.
