ASCOT MAKE NEWHAVEN RETURN AS VASE QUEST BEGINS

#WeAreAscot.

Ascot United kick off their Buildbase FA Vase campaign this Saturday with a return to Southern Combination outfit Newhaven (3pm). The Yellamen will be returning to The Dockers’ Trafalgar Ground (postcode BN9 9DA) four years after they were beaten by a last-gasp Lee Robinson goal in the same competition.

Only captain Louis Bouwers survives from the team that lost 2-1 that day, although Bouwers himself only played seconds of the tie having only come on in the 93rd minute.

Four years on, Newhaven still have Lee Robinson in their ranks and are in a healthy 4th place in their league –with just one defeat and games in hand on those above them – if they won them all they would go top. Robinson has also retained his scoring boots having netted nine goals in eleven games this term, and at the other end dependable ‘keeper Jake Buss still holds the goalie gloves.

Coming into the game Newhaven have won three on the trot since their only league defeat on 3rd October when current league leaders Saltdean United won 2-1 at The Trafalgar Ground.

Entry is pay on the gate for all supporters.

This weekend’s fixtures involving Combined Counties Premier Division sides include five league matches, with many teams involved in FA Vase first round action.

Please also note that Jersey Bulls were scheduled to play their ‘home’ tie versus Cobham here at The Racecourse on Saturday afternoon, but this tie is now cancelled as Jersey have withdrawn due to Covid-19 logistical challenges.
