ASCOT WOMEN LOSE AT KEYNSHAM

Ayme’s Ascot still looking for first point of season

Ascot United lost 4-0 at Keynsham Town in the National League South West Division on Sunday.

Despite the first half being fairly even, it was the home side who took their chances to lead 2-0 at the break.

And, the first of them came after just three minutes when Ascot ‘keeper Emily Evans’s goal kick was headed straight back into danger for Sach Kaneko-Grun to convert clean-through on goal.

Monica Ferreira’s header was well saved by Lily Lewis down to her left and Lauren Knight went close with a free kick as the visitors tried to get back on terms.

Ferreira then went even closer when she rounded the ‘keeper, shot from a tight angle, and then headed agonisingly wide after a defender had slice the initial effort back to her.

After those three decent chances for Ascot, Keynsham would make it 2-0 when Kaneko-Grun raced onto a ball over the top and buried it into the corner.

After the break, Keynsham had the better of the chances and Mia Mugford shot just wide, Evans saved well from Lily Withers and Jade Radburn hit a post from the resultant corner kick; all chances within a four minute spell.

But they finally broke through again – twice inside the final ten minutes – when Mugford scored, before Freya Mist netted amidst a goalmouth scramble to make it 4-0.

Substitute Somayah Zayadi almost bagged a 90th minute consolation for the visitors but her fine shot on the turn was well saved by Lewis in the hosts’ goal.

Ascot United: Evans, Way, Coughlin, Rogers, Merican, Knight, Andrews, Sheikh, Ferreira, Cipriano, Forward. Subs: Nurcellari, Zayadi, Joseph-White, Haine, Bigrave
