Ascot United will continue their league cup campaign on Tuesday evening with the visit of Chessington and Hook United, in what will be the final match for a month-or-so after Tuesday’s announcement by the FA ratified what we all expected, following last weekend’s announcement by the government.
The Yellamen will welcome the Division One outfit off the back of Saturday’s FA Vase exit at Newhaven – and if you want a final football fix before you have to retrieve your tinsel from the attic – now is the time to get it.
The league cup provides a realistic chance of silverware, enhanced by a host of Premier Division sides being knocked out last week, and Ascot have a rich pedigree in league cup competitions dating back to 2017 when they ‘technically’ lost last a league cup tie (including only the main league cup competition in each season).
For the record, the visitors are eighth in Division one having faltered after a strong start, although they did inflict leaders Farnham Town’s one and only league defeat. However, they are winless on the road and have struggled for goals with just 17 from their 12 league games and no individual player bagging more than three goals this term. But the cup is a great leveller…and we should all enjoy tomorrow’s game!
