Friday night at home on the Ascot 3G surface under the lights for a 7:45 pm kick off, café still open with the smell of cheesy chips and burgers and hang on even with the bar closed there was still a chance to buy some liquid refreshments for the thirsty from the café. What’s not to like
It was in the 8th minute when the Ascot defence under pressure from Sandhurst mis controlled a ball and the Sandhurst striker strong and determined did not need a second invitation to tea and biscuits surged into the box and slotted the ball past an advancing Hanna who didn’t have a chance. It was first blood to Sandhurst who up this point had done everything they were asked to do by piling the early pressure on Ascot. 1 NIL to Sandhurst.
In the 31st minute, another attack by the Diamonds brought some scrambled defending by Sandhurst before the ball landed neatly for Kitty, who took one touch and curled the ball into the back of the net to level for the Diamonds. After 12 attempts, Ascot had scored that vital equaliser, and it was game on… well, to be fair, it was game on for a long time after that opening goal, but this made it official. 1-1 as this was Kitty’s 2nd goal of the season and a very timely strike.
In the 46th minute it was another flowing bit of football from the Diamonds as they swept the ball forward starting with a good bit of defending from Emily to clear the ball under pressure and for Eva to control the pass before sending it to Hollie dancing down the left wing down to drive the ball into the box which went to Kyla then to a Sandhurst defender who lost it to Tabitha, before Macy beat the defender to the pass turned and saw her shot blocked which landed just inside the box for Phoebe to place it past the bemused keeper for a huge goal at that stage as the ground erupted in delight at the goal that Ascot were searching for.
2-1 to Ascot and that was Phoebe’s 2nd goal of the season. An immense strike
Coaches Player of the match was Hollie for her exquisite torment of the Sandhurst defence for the entire game, and Opposition player of the match was Alexa who also tormented Sandhurst with her runs, strength, and myriad of crosses.
