Ascot U18’s beat Bracknell in County Cup
Ascot United U18’s paid the ultimate tribute to one of their players, Ryan Murray, who was rushed to hospital earlier on a day when his side marched into the last eight of the Berks and Bucks County Cup. David Burton’s side kept Bracknell Town U18’s at beat on the road – winning 3-2 – to continue their resurgence under Burton’s leadership.
Ascot started brightly and took control early on.
Cormack opened the scoring on 9 minutes after rounding the keeper, before Finn doubled the lead with a stunning 30-yard strike.
Bracknell pulled one back late on, but Cormack sealed it in added time to spark wild celebrations. A final Bracknell goal in stoppage time made it 3–2, but the result never felt in doubt.
A huge win — and the lads march into the last eight of the County Cup!
Speaking after the game, Burton was beaming.
“What a night for the Young Yellamen!
The lads were outstanding from the first whistle — full of desire, energy and togetherness. Every player left everything on the pitch.
Before kick-off the message was simple: “Let’s win this for Ryan.”
Ryan Murray was rushed into surgery for appendicitis earlier in the day but is thankfully on the mend — and was even on the phone when our third goal went in!
Ascot’s identity is really taking shape. We’re playing with confidence, purpose and belief — and just as losing becomes a habit, so does staying unbeaten.
This U18 project has been huge for the club. Stepping up from the Allied Counties to the Isthmian Youth League for the first time in the Clubs History, was always going to be a challenge, especially without a proper pre-season last year. But that season built the foundation for this one.
Recruitment over the summer focused on character — lads with the right attitude, hunger and work ethic. You can coach ability, but not desire.
Now we’ve got a squad bursting with talent and spirit — and they’d all run through a brick wall for each other.
Come on the Yellamen!”
The club wishes Ryan all the best on his road to recovery; this one’s for you!
