Josh Nice and his Allied Under 18 side face their biggest match of the season tonight as they entertain league leaders Westfield and a potential winner-takes-all top of the table clash.
With just one point separating the two sides at the top of the Allied Counties Youth League (South), The Yellamen know that victory will take them above the visitors and on the brink of the title – league table here.
Both sides have lost just one league game all season. The Yellamen were humbled by Wokingham and Emmbrook in October, although are unbeaten in 8 games since then. On the other hand, Westfield lost their opening game of the season and are unbeaten in 13 matches in all competitions (in normal time) since an FA Youth Cup defeat in mid-September.
It is a tasty affair on paper – Ascot’s 100% home league record will surely be tested by Westfield’s high-scoring team who have netted 42 league games in 12 matches – so this is not to be missed.
What are the permutations? (I think I’ve got this right!)
If Ascot win, then they will be champions if they subsequently win one OR draw both of their final two league games at Virginia Water (28/2) or Fleet Spurs (7/3). However, even if they lost both of those games, they would still be champions if Westfield fail to win their final league game against Frimley Green (28/3).
If Ascot draw, they’ll remain one point behind Westfield, but their destiny will still be in their own hands with the game in hand. They would need to win both of their remaining games to avoid needing a favour from Frimley Green at Westfield later in March.
If Ascot lose, then they would definitely need to win their final two games AND hope Frimley Green take points off Westfield in that end of March game.
