RAIDERS EDGE OUT WINDSOR YOUTH IN 7 GOAL THRILLER

Raiders visited Windsor to play their second away match of the season and kicked off 25 mins late due to the earlier match being delayed.

Windsor started the game much the better of the two teams. Raiders struggled to get their game going and were pegged back by Windsor. Then totally against the run of play, Raiders opened the scoring on 12 mins when a contested long ball from the right fell into the path of Morgan who stroked the ball home. Two mins later he added a second poking the ball home after a sublime ball out of defence by Jimbo. Windsor however continued to press trying to play the ball through or over the top of our centre backs. Jack and Jamie held firm and when the ball did get through Musty handled comfortably. Windsor did have half chances but couldn’t make them count. At the other end Raiders looked to take advantage of the Windsor high line but too often were caught offside. Nevertheless, there were some good moments, Morgan had a chance but couldn’t beat the keeper at his near post while mazy runs by Euan and then Cory resulted in shots going close. HT 0-2

In the second half the game became more end to end; Windsor made some changes and pressed hard forcing Raiders to defend stoutly with the back four holding Windsor at bay. Then on 65 mins a clever run from midfield by Windsor, which wasn’t tracked, allowed the striker to chip Musty, 1-2. The crowd sensed a Windsor comeback but 2 mins after they scored Harry made it 3-1 poking home from close range. Things got better 8 mins later when Euan shrugged off a defender and fired home, but Windsor refused to lie down and pulled another goal back from a throw-in, their tall striker soaring to head past Musty, 2-4. Surely Raiders weren’t going to let the game slip away??, Then in ‘squeaky bum’ time Windsor were awarded a penalty for a Jamie challenge. Despite striking the inside of the post the ball ricocheted along and over the line ! 3-4 Shortly after the whistle blew to end the match.

After a shaky start a good all round committed performance and undefeated after 3 games, the best start to a season I can remember!
