Match Report  by Rajveer Dhaliwal

Today’s game ended 4-1 to the Saints which was a well-deserved win. It is our first win of the season!!!

Ascot started a little slow and were being pinned back. The Ascot defence looked strong with Vlad & Sam leading the charge in breaking down any of Rotherfield’s attacks.

But in the 10th minute Rotherfield Bees scored from a scramble in the box, that Ascot failed to clear. That was a wake up call the Saints needed. They started to press more this kept Rotherfield in their own half and allowed us to get back into the game.

The equaliser came from the pressure that the Saints kept on mounting on the Bees. Matteo played a through ball to Jimi who skinned up one of their defenders and took a powerful shot from the edge of the box, which flew into the back of the net, beating the keeper at his near post.

We kept the pressure on like it was still 1-0 to the other team. This led to another goal this time set up by Matin. He played a great ball to Ed who skipped past a couple of defenders and scored a good goal just inside the box, placing it into the keepers far corner.

Towards the end of the half, we put on more pressure on the left and it worked. Matteo took it off their player and went past a few of their defenders and scored a screamer from outside the box.

The half ended 3-1.

In the 2nd half Ascot kept pressure on the opposition and we remained compact at the back. The Saints could have scored a few more goals. We kept control of the ball for most of the half and didn’t look like we were going to concede another goal. We played some good passing moves and our defence cleared or passed out any balls that came their way.

Towards the end of the game the bee’s goalkeeper had goal kick and passed right to Ed who was near the centre circle. Ed’s quick thinking, vision and skill allowed him to have a quick shot from distance, that sailed into an empty net.

The game ended 4-1 to the Saints.

Players man of the Match:

Ed for a strong performance all round and scorer of 2 great goals.

Coach’s Man of the Match:

Sam for a fantastic game at the back. He was very strong throughout and didn’t let players get past him.
