RAIDERS THROW AWAY 2 GOAL LEAD TO DROP 3 POINTS AT CAVERSHAM

Raiders travelled to Caversham yesterday hoping to build on last week’s victory. On a warm spring day and a hard pitch the match started with Raiders pressing from the off and in the first few minutes Cory had a shot saved. At the other end Caversham issued a warning they were not to be taken lightly when they burst through and forced Musty into a fine save with his feet. Raiders continued to press and came close from a couple of corners, then on 7 mins Matthew found himself on the edge of the area with the ball at his feet and curled a delicious shot past the keeper. Shortly afterwards Finlay had a shot well saved from a great cross by Rufus and this was followed on 13 mins by goal number 2 when Jamie curled the ball home from the edge of the area. To their credit Caversham came roaring back and on 15 mins reduced the deficit when their left winger timed his run to perfection and raced through and scored. The game became end to end with Raiders having a goal disallowed for offside, but on 38 mins Caversham equalised when they were allowed time and space on the edge of the area to fire past Musty. A minute later the comeback was complete when Raiders failure to clear the ball allowed Caversham time to place a shot past Musty, so 3-2 down at half time.

With the boys the recipients of a half time rocket from Dan & Rory, the second half saw Raiders continually pressing and some decent chances were created. Finlay shooting over from a good through ball by Hari subsequently having a shot saved from a Rufus cross and Cory clipping the bar with fine shot. Caversham for their part, were feeding off dead ball situations and long balls for their main striker to chase. It was from a free kick they almost scored with a header. Finally on 61 mins Raiders equalised through Rufus after a Jimbo cross and a rebound off the bar. With Raiders camped in the Caversham half and only Jamie to mark the striker, a few one on one situations developed but between them Musty and Jamie managed these situations, that is until the 76th min when finally the striker got the better of Jamie and slotted the ball past Musty for the goal that proved the winner.
