Raiders played their first game for a month with a bare eleven players and Hari playing in goal due to Finn leaving the club. For their part Ashridge arrived bottom of the league and without a win so far this season. The weather was kind, but the pitch had so much grass it felt like the first game of the season.

The game got underway on time and it didn’t take long for Raiders to prove the superior team and wave after wave of attacks bore down on the Ashridge goal. Euan shot wide from a James D through ball, Cory had a shot saved by the keeper and Pablo had a long range effort tipped over by the keeper. Ashridge battled gamely to stem the tide and nearly scored with a free header from a corner but Raiders kept creating chances, Finlay volleyed over from a Pablo corner and Jamie headed wide from a wickedly whipped Pablo corner. At this point Raiders were moving the ball around from the back four through midfield but that elusive first goal refused to come, Cory having a great shot saved and on 25 mins with Euan clean through the keeper pulled off a terrific save when we all thought the ball was going to end up in the back of the net! Harry the headed over from another Pablo corner but made amends after 39 mins shooting home at the second attempt. Half Time 1-0

The second half had barely started when out of the blue Ashridge equalised, their striker beating Hari to a through ball rounding him and slotting home. Undeterred Raiders kept pushing and Euan shoots over from a James D pass but made no mistake on 45 mins sending the defender the wrong way and scoring with a left foot shot from 6 yards. More half chances came and went James D just unable to reach a Euan cross, Cory shooting over and both Harry and Pablo unable to find the target. Meanwhile at the back Jamie was sweeping up when Ashridge occasionally threatened. On 58 mins Finlay took over in goal and Raiders still had chances but the score stubbornly remained at 2-1. Then on 60 mins Raiders increased their lead when Euan slotted home from a Pablo pass and with Ashridge pushing forward a further two goals were added on 76 and 78 mins by James D from the left the passes being provided firstly by Hari and then Jamie.

Final score:5-1 and up to 3rd (temporarily) in the league. A workmanlike performance with Pablo putting in his usual offensive and defensive shift in midfield.

MOM: Hari and Finlay for their goalkeeping cameos.
